I consider myself to be ‘in the know’ when it comes to absinthe… having made several batches myself.

Lucid is undoubtedly the best absinthe I have ever tried… the color is fantastic, the aroma is amazing… and the louche is perfect.

Score 10/10 IMO.

Listen to meatwaggon. Also, don’t take shots of any kind of absinthe, a louche is needed to release all the flavors. If you want to get fucked up buy a plastic bottle of vodka.

Those who stated that absinthe is “vile” have been drinking that crappy stuff call absinth (no -e at the end), also known as “czechsinth”, “czechswill”, “assbinth”, or just “swill”. That stuff is horrendously bitter, macerated crap and is not distilled as is traditionally done with real absinthe. Please don’t confuse the two. The real absinthe has the distillation step which removes the vast majority of the bitter absinthin compounds and leaves you with a wonderfully balanced, VERY slightly bitter distillate smelling of various herbs balanced in perfect harmony. That’s real absinthe.

As a general rule, almost anything made in the Czech Republic is the fake bitter crapsinth variety. Try some brands like Jade, Duplais, Roquette, or Bell Amie. Three authentic brands just recently made legal in the US and available for sale here are Lucid, Kubler 53, and St. Georges. More are coming. Drink those, not stuff like KOSG which thinks it can fool people into buying garbage by artificially charging massively inflated prices, with the thought that people will think if it’s expensive it must be good, it must be the real deal. Caveat emptor!

I was at a club in NOLA last night called the dungeon. GREAT club…. the lucid Absinthe was great. Over the bar there is a small sign saying they have it for 7.50 a serving… i got curious and wanted to know if it tasted the same as the stuff i had in Berlin… It didn’t… All it was was about a teaspoon of wormwood with another teaspoon of everclear and twice as much sugar water. My friend thought hers was nasty so i drank hers and mine… i didn’t feel it at first but when i woke up this morning i was faced with the question, “How the f*ck did i get home?!?!?! Wait, Who are you?!?!?” Apperently i hallucinated and a friend of a friend came home with me and i refused to go to sleep unless he slept with me in the bed “To protect me from the scary people”… or so he said… n e way.. if ur going to drink the stuff be good about it and don’t drink to much…
